Named for its 67-step stairway which always feels like 1000 steps on the way up, 1000 Steps is an excellent dive & snorkel site, featuring a beach made entirely of broken coral pieces. Home to huge formations of star coral found in few other places, 1000 Steps is also a frequent sighting spot for turtles, Manta Rays and Whale Sharks. Depth 20-100 feet.

The beach also has a trail that runs along the ironshore where you can see caves carved by the higher water levels of the past.

  • This is a great place to spend a day on vacation and picnic, however, be warned that whenever there are cruise ships in port, 1000 Steps is regularly besieged by loud and obnoxious cruise tourists on island tours. Resist the urge to pelt them with coral pieces as they leave litter the beach and then depart. Or, pelt them. whatever works.
