Welcome to the Randhurst Mall, formerly known as Randhurst Center. Opening in 1962, the Mall was closed on September 30, 2008 and was demolished in 2009 and 2010 for Randhurst Village. A great book, "Randhurst: Suburban Chicago's Grandest Shopping Center" was published recently and is all about it. Many stores have come and gone, including (in no particular order) a Jewel supermarket (before it moved outside the mall and was demolished and rebuilt since then at least once), S.S. Kresge (later a Woolworth Express), P.J.'s Trick Shop (still around in the area), Foot Locker (a mall staple), Kroch's & Brentano's (a good bookstore in the Chicagoland area), and McDonald's (upper level, near food court), Wieboldt's (a mid-range department store and the only remaining structure from Randhurst...the current Carson Pirie Scott is an expanded version of it, it even had a supermarket at one point, according to the Randhurst book), JCPenney ("this was one of the last true full-line Penney's stores I ever saw erected, and they actually preserved most of the decor from the old Carson's" -- DeadMalls), Bon Appétit (food court place, opened by the wife of the original manager of the mall), Bananas (smoothies!)

  • Amanda Bynes invaded this mall (and of course the village) recently and signed autographs to fans. That is so rare that a Hollywood actress visited a low profile shopping mall and a low profile suburb. She's not A-listed but she appeared in many teen-oriented films and TV shows. She now have visited Vancouver, Chicago, NY, London, Toronto. Now Amanda Bynes knows where Elmhurst Rd. and Rand Rd. and Mt. Prospect is!
