This is the location of the US Army's Nike Missile Site C-84, closed in 1963.
This facility housed only the First Generation "Nike Ajax" missiles and was closed down rather than converted to the Second Generation "Nike Hercules" missiles.

This was one of many Nike sites which provided the "supersonic ring of steel" around Chicago. There were rings around most of the major US cities.

  • I lived in Deer Park Illinois right near Quentin road and Long Grove road. My friend/neighbor showed me these big steel doors that faced downwards at an angle and we opened one side. There were stairs that led a couple stories underground. I had a tiny flashlight so I didn't see much. This was in like 1980-something and it has since been covered.
