Fort Sheridan's airfield was probably constructed in the early 1950's, as the earliest known reference to it was in 1954. Aside from routine transportation needs for the base, it was used for anti-aircraft training.
It was renamed "Haley AAF" in the late 1960's, in honor of Army Captain Patrick Haley, a helicopter pilot who died in the Vietnam war.
The single-runway airfield was closed sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Much of the runway had been removed by 1988.
