"Bistrishko Branishte" (Bulgarian: Бистришко бранище) is a nature reserve with Government decree No.15422 from 27.10.1934 on Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria comprising the eastern slopes of Golyam Rezen (2,277 m), Malak Rezen (2,191 m) and Skoparnik (2,226 m) Peaks, the northern slopes of Golyam Kupen Peak (1,930 m), and the upper valleys of Vitoshka Bistritsa River and Yanchevska River. Surface area 1,061.6 ha, elevation between 1,250 and 2,282 m.
Unique identification code in the register of protected areas in Bulgaria: 4.
The reserve comprises coniferous forests mostly with spruce (Picea abies) and deciduous forests of beech (Fagus sylvatica) on lower slopes, whereas the higher parts are covered by subalpine shrub (Juniperus sibirica) and grassland communities, and bare rocks. Very characteristic for the landscape are the stone rivers.
Over 50% of the territory is covered by forest (predominantly spruce), 100 to 120 years old on the average. There are several stone rivers in the Subalpine zone, partly penetrating the forest too. The larger animals found in the reserve include deer, boar, wolf and bear.
In 1977, the reserve was included in the list of biosphere reserves under the UNESCO "Man and the Biosphere" (MAB) Programme.
