Amon G. Carter Stadium is a football stadium located on the campus of Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas. It is the home stadium of the TCU Horned Frogs football team, and, since 2003, also hosts the annual Armed Forces Bowl. The stadium was named in honor of Amon G. Carter, a prominent Fort Worth businessman, newspaper publisher, and city booster.
The stadium was originally constructed from 1929 to 1930 with a capacity of 22,000. In 1948, the capacity was raised to 30,500. Additional extensions in 1951 and 1953 raised the capacity to 33,000 and 37,000, respectively. An upper tier with a two-storey press boxed, was added to the west stand in 1956, and capacity was increased to 46,000. Improvements were made to the seating in 1985 and 1991, reducing the capacity to 44,000. The playing area was originally grass; it was replaced by Astroturf in 1973 before grass returned in 1992.
From 2010 to 2012, Amon G. Carter Stadium underwent a reconstruction project, which was designed by HKS, Inc. and cost $164,000,000. The west and east stands were demolished and rebuilt, while the lowest portion of the original seating bowl was refurbished. The rebuilt west stand, with 3 tiers of seating, has 24 luxury boxes and a new press box. The rebuilt north and east stands have 2 tiers of seating. The current seating capacity of the stadium is 45,000.
