Jinnah House (Mumbai)

India / Maharashtra / Mumbai
 historical building  Add category

Built by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, should rightfully belong to the Wadias as his wife was one. But is now an unkempt mess. Used to be in pristine condition when the British High Commission occupied it for a couple of decades after Independence.

  • The centerpiece of the struggle for Pakistan. A rich bit of history in the middle of India's greatest city. I would love to visit it, if only to catch a glimpse of Jinnah House.... I owe my present and future to the history that was shaped in this place.
  • Since Jinnah is to Pakistan, what Gandhi is to India - Its only reasonable and appropriate for the Govt. of India to allow this building to be used as the Pakistani Consulate in Mumbai. This would be a gesture of goodwill and will undoubtedly take the peace process forward as the house has sentimental value for 160million Pakistanis. Likewise, if there is a place of sentimental value for Indians, which is now located in Pakistan (whether a temple, residence of an Indian hero, Gurudwara etc.), the Govt. of Pakistan should reciprocate the Indian move and allow it to be used as per the aspirations of Indians.
  • This place surely has heritage value and needs to be preserved as a national monument. Giving to Pakistan Embassy may be dangerous from Security point of veiw since location is strategic.
  • If it is not given to Pakistan or to Jinnah`s daughter, then the Indian Government should atleast maintain this place. As a foreigner, to me, it will be a contemptuous act on part of the indians to DEMOLISH this place.... "SRK", try to respect history. It is indeed a historical and a valuable piece of art. I am amazed to see the reaction of the indians.... This shows that they are hypocrites. There is no need for you people to show the rest of the world that you are on good terms with Pakistan.
  • I agree with the words of AJ and Harry, mentioned above. Try to love each other, help each other, respect each other. Not Pakistan No India, It was single BHARATHAM our beloved country. Billions of rupees spend for wars, who/what gained, who/what lost???
  • "Billions of rupees spend for wars, who/what gained, who/what lost???" Indeed.
