The Back Bay as seen from the Marine Drive.

The Marine Drive, now 'Netaji Subhashchandra Bose Marg' is a 3 km long boulevard, an inverted 'C'-shaped six lane concrete road in South Bombay. The road links Nariman Point to Babulnath and Malabar Hill. Marine Drive is situated over reclaimed land facing west-south-west. Back Bay is part of the Arabian Sea. It is so-called because the original City of Bombay was a small township around Fort St. George, the former Portuguese Casa da Orta, and which faced the harbor, which is called Front Bay; therefore, the bay behind the city was called 'Back Bay'.

Marine Drive is also known as the 'Queen's Necklace' because at night time when the street lights are switched on, it looks like a glittering diamond necklace - a sight to behold.
