formerly Lower Streatham

Streatham Vale is the area within the historic parish of Streatham traditionally known as Lonesome. The River Graveney passed through the area on a meandering path and was prone to flooding.

There were some failed attempts at residential development in the Victorian era, but the area remained largely as fields and orchards until Wates developed the area as low cost housing for sale in the 1920s.. It was at this stage that the name "Streatham Vale" was adopted for the continuation of Greyhound Lane through the area. The name is not geographically accurate as the area is flat - the River Graveney has been straightened and culverted.

The Streatham Vale Property Occupiers' Association (known as Streatham Vale Property Owners' Association until 2001) has been in existence since the 1920s.
