AH Ruzbeh, the Fort in Revdanda it's the same of Chaul Fort! Chaul was the ancient Portuguese name for what is now Revdanda.

Upper Chaul was with the Muslim rulers and Lower Chaul which was with the Portuguese from 1505 to 1739 is now called Revdanda. Upper Chaul now called Chaul also had a fort called Rajkot built by Sambhaji.

dear Ruzbeh, This place was firstly occupied by portuguese in 1492,when they built this fort in 1505 which is one of the oldest portuguese built forts in rivdanda , which is as it is called by portuguese during that time , later they moved to inland and came to a place called chaul, later in 16th century when the mugals under ahmedshah attacked this place and were in contol of the lower part which is chaul. The portuguese controlled it till later part of 16th century when they lost a battle with the moguls under ahmedshah, the portuguese were led by alphonse alberque, after he died during this battle, the portuguese and local soldiers fought a long protracted battle lasting for 3 months , after their supplies got finished they had to surrender to mugals , this ended thier association with this fort and this place. After 1690 the marathas under the leadership of great admiral Kanhoji Angre captured this for and added a extension on the southern side of the creek.

Hi Ambrish, the Portuguese in India (2 vols) are good books to read on Portuguese history but you should also read ' Notes on the history and antiquities on Chaul and Bassein' by Da Cunha. This book gives the best description of history and the ruins of Chaul and Revdanda. Do read this book. There's no point in typing out the history of the places but just one point to mention 'what we call Revdanda today is actually the fortifies city of Chaul entirely built ny the Portuguese. And Upper Chaul (Chaul de Riba) was with the Muslim rulers till 1672 when taken by Shivaji. But in 1683, Sambhaji built a fort called Rajkot on an earlier Muslim fort which was later destroyed.
