The building was constructed in 1886. It was remodeled in 1891 and again in 1910 by the architects Roman Klein and V. A. Mazirin

The doorways of the side wings are decorated by graceful decorative Corinthian columns, over which is an entablature with winged griffins, cornices and topped by a triangular pediment.

The home of Barbara Alekseevna Morozova (Arseny Morozov's mother), nee Chudovo (1848-1917). A bright, talented, efficient woman who capably handled the commercial affairs and management of the family factory complex in Tver. She was known in Moscow for charitable works in particular the creation and building of a free public library and reading rooms which opened in 1885 in memory of Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev.

In addition Barbara Alekseevna built a psychiatric clinic which was the start of a medical center near Bolshoy and Maly Pirogovsky streets. The clinic originally bore the name of Abram Morozov, her husband who died in an insane asylum when he was 43 and she was only 34 years old (beginning in 1938 it was named for S.S. Korsakov). At the same medical center, she donated monies for a cancer institute which opened in 1903. Today it is Institute of Medical Parasitology and Tropical Medicine.
