The Kupferstichkabinett and the art library belong to the cultural forum (German: Kulturforum) in the local part zoo. The building was built by the architect Rolf Gutbrod 1987-1992.

The Museum of Prints and Drawings contains the largest collection of graphic art in Germany and ranks one of the four most important museums of its kind in the world. The museum exhibits 500,000 prints and 110,000 drawings, watercolours, pastels and oil sketches. The collection includes masterpieces from famous artists such as Botticelli, Rembrandt and Picasso. It is complemented by the works of the neighbouring Art Library, which collects and exhibits prints and drawings, primarily European works related to the applied arts.
