In early 1959, according to conventional wisdom, 12 Soviet R-5M (SS-3 Shyster) Nuclear Missiles were stationed at the two German cities of Vogelsang and Fürstenberg (Lychen). These buildings are the Missile Hangars (north, garage-like building) and Nuclear Warhead Storage (south, two large bunkers).
The interesting thing about these launch sites is that they are configured for R-12 (SS-4 Sandal) Nuclear Missiles – a missile with twice the range of the R-5M.
