On May 14, 2003 a wood trestle at this site collapsed under a Canadian National freight train, resulting in the deaths of engineer Art McKay and conductor Ken LeQuesne. The two locomotives and the first 4 cars of the 86 car train were destroyed. CN constructed a new line to the west of the former bridge.
