Church of the Holy Trinity (Dryanovo)

Bulgaria / Gabrovo / Drjanovo / Dryanovo
church, listed building / architectural heritage, 1850s construction, Bulgarian Orthodox Church

The Holy Trinity Church, built by Kolyu Ficheto in 1851, attracts attention with the magnificence of its carved ceiling.
The church has three naves, a semicircular apse and a narthex. A gallery passes over the narthex and part of the side ships. The side ships have the same width as the middle one, but are lower. They are separated by two rows of slender round columns. All three ships have semi-cylindrical brick vaults. The middle one is higher and has a suspended wooden ceiling of alternating smooth and carved fields, among which the sun motif occupies a central place, which in this case is almost the same as in room № 4 of Daskalov's House in Tryavna - made by the same master - Ivan Denev Mitev, born in the Dryanovo village of Buchukvotsi, created a new, modern trend in the art of carving.
