rotunda, interesting place, listed building / architectural heritage, 12th century construction

Built in 1126 in the Romanesque style on top of the mountain by the Czech Duke Soběslav I in place of the wooden church.

Its construction was in favorem the Duke's victory over the German Emperor Lothar's army at the Battle of Chlumec.

Among other similar buildings of the XII century on the territory of the Czech Republic this Rotunda of St. George is the second largest after Prague St. Vitus rotunda. At the same time it serves as a proof of the high level of Czech architecture of Soběslav I's era.
