rotunda, Roman Catholic church, 5th century constructions
SANTO STEFANO ROTONDO AL
CELIO
Stational church (Lent V Friday))
Built AD 468-483, a unique circular church in late Roman style.
Immemorial Minor Basilica, Cardinal Title, Rectory church, National church of Hungary.
The original rich marble linings have been stripped from the walls but this less well-known church is still calm and atmospheric. Irish and American visitors might be interested to look for a small inscription dedicated to Brian Boru, High King of Ireland (926-1014).
