The Bruce Heavy Water Plant produced 16,000 tonnes of heavy water during its operation from April 1973 until March 1998. The Girdler sulfide process was used for the enrichment of the readily available lake water. The Hydrogensulfide was partly burned after the decommissioning of the plant.
