An early sequence in the climactic bicycle/car chase in the film "What's Up Doc?" was filmed on this stretch of Balboa St. between 22nd and 24th Aves. It is one of the few places in San Francisco where you can come down a steep hill and then immediately go up on the other side of the intersection. In the film a man on a ladder is hanging a banner in the middle of Balboa St. at 23rd, and two other men are carrying a huge pane of glass across the intersection. A bicycle and three cars narrowly miss them, then reverse and miss them again, but manage to destroy a VW van in the process. Finally, the ladder is knocked out from under the workman, who swings down on the banner and shatters the glass pane.
