Second World War 1939-1945, interesting place, armoured fighting vehicle on display

One of many Sherman Tanks 'Lost at sea' in a tragic accident during an exercise in Start Bay, while preparing for the 'Normandy Landings' of WWII. A fitting tribute to over four hundred United States Soldiers who lost their lives, drowned by a single mistake while preparing a practise assault on the beach, the landing craft were ordered to drop their ramps far too soon and the tanks unwitingly launched away into the sea. Sherman Tanks cannot float at all, they filled instantly and sank, taking their crews with them to their deaths. Their parents and families only learning of this many years later.
The tank is surprisingly intact, nearly complete, despite nearly six decades in the sea. It is sited as though keeping watch over the site where tragedy happened so many years ago.
