An educational community facility located in the Port Richmond neighborhood of NE Philadelphia, PA. Established in 1977, Community Women's Education Project (CWEP) is a fully funded community-based initiative offering education and outreach to individuals needing employment re-training, even literacy assistance, with emphasis on community involvement and peer building. Volunteers are welcome to participate, along with donations form the private sector at large.
The facility hosts up to eight individual organizations or sub-oganizations that cater to child and adult education. They include Jewish Educational and Vocational Services (JEVS); Willard Elementary School - Somerset Annex; New Beginnings Head Start, also a school; Community College of Philadelphia; and Youth United for Change.
The building, a 40,000 sq. ft. historic property, features a turreted heavy gray-stone facade and measures three and a half stories, with the main entrance on the south side and an alternate on the north.
