Chekotin Monastery of St. Michael the Archangel (Chekotinski Manastir Sv. Arhangel Mihail).
Chekotin Monastery of St. Michael the Archangel is located along the Iskar River near the hamlet Chekotin (hence its name), west of Kalugerovo Village (Pravets Municipality). It was built during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom - in the end of XII or beginning of XIII century. About 4-5 km west of it is situated Bozhenishki Urvich fortress, which had own religious complex related to the monastery. When in the XIV century the fortress fell under Ottoman occupation the monastery was destroyed.
During its existence Chekotinski monastery was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. For the last the monastery burned in 1991, but six months later was restored and expanded and a new chapel was built. The old church was partially restored by keeping her architecture. It was declared a cultural monument. Especially valuable in it are the icons and ornate iconostasis - the work of a master from the Tryavna Art school.
