Palliya thuruthu island is an exotic piece of landmass at the Ashtamudi lake with unique geographic features.This land was originally belonged to Sri.Padmanabhan,Puthiyaveedu,Pattamthuruthu which was conferred to him by the then rulers.This land was used by him for agricultural purposes and the yield was very high. His demise was also happened in this land in 1944 while supervising the agricultural activities. His two sons (Sri.Narayanan & Sri.Nanu) and daughter(Smt.Parukutty Madhavan) were the legal heirs of this 4 acres land.
Since the people at nearby lands taken earth from this island decreasing the area to greater extent. Now,all the legal heirs are no more but
their successors of Puthiyaveettil family are now in Pattam thuruthu.The mangroves of this island and its sarroundings are the main breading area of fishes and prawns of Ashtamudi lake which in turn provides the livelihood of fishermen folk. The land area is also have distinct flora and fauna. A well with full of fresh water constructed for the earlier agricultural purposes can also be witnessed now surrounded by lush green plants.The scenic beauty of Ashtamudi lake is most enchanting from this spot especially at morning , evening and on full moon nights.This pearl like island of Ashtamudi lake is really a paradise of nature lovers.
