Important birding area (IBA). Thousands of ducks, coots and other waterfowl nesting here. Sandpipers, plovers, stints and other limicoles in migration. Whooper swan can be seen regularly in winter. The lack of fish in the water keeps fishermen away, thus ensuring relatively good conditions for birds. However, two sheep farms (one on the south bank, one on the north-east) have a distructive influence on the reed habitat.
