Lang Station (site)

Site of the September 5, 1876 golden spike ceremony celebrating Southern Pacific Railroad's connection of Los Angeles and San Francisco. The spike was driven by then-president, Charles Crocker. The station was torn down by the SP in 1971 despite being landmarked. A historical marker remains.

The station was adjacent to the Lang Hotel, built by John Lang in 1871. It was 36x36 and had two stories. The hotel burned in the 1900s and was never rebuilt.
