Balapur is a historical town which used to be the capital of western 'Baraar' now called Vidarbha in Marathi. It has a big Fort and a canopy called Chhatri which was constructed at the command of Mughal General Rajah Jai Sinh. The replica of this Chhatri is found at Jaipur, the Pink City, the capital of now the western state of Rajasthan in India.
