177-foot, 16-story Beaux-arts office building completed in 1908 as the Van Schaick Building. Designed by Buchman & Fox, its 3-story base is highlighted by large projecting Palladian windows. The base is four bays wide on 5th Avenue, and six bays on 14th Street. It is clad in white stone, with storefront at the ground floor along the north side. The entrance is in the second-to-southernmost bay on the avenue, framed in marble and set under a round-arch with an arched canvas canopy. The bay above the entrance has angled Palladian bay windows, as do the three northern bays on the 3rd floor. The remaining bays on this side of the base are similar but don't project. The piers between the bays are paneled, with carved lion's faces on the 3rd floor, holding hanging garlands. The painted spandrels between the 2nd & 3rd floors are decorated with rosettes set in squares. On the north elevation, all of the 2nd-floor bays are flat, while all of those on the 3rd floor have angled projections. The ornament matches that on the avenue, and both sides of the base are capped by a modillioned stone cornice.
At the upper floors the fenestration pattern has evenly-spaced windows, with two per bay. The 4th floor has banded stone piers with cartouches, topped by a dentiled band course with a Greek-fet motif. The upper floors are clad in beige banded brick with patterned band courses at every other floor. The 13th floor has a dentiled stone cornice with large console brackets, and the 14th floor has round-arched windows. The 2-story crown features a double-height round-arch in each bay, topped with a scrolled keystone, and encompassing triangular pediments at the 15th floor. A dark brown metal roof cornice with large modillions tops the two main facades.
The exposed upper south and west elevations are clad in plain brown brick, with windows on the west side. The ground floor is occupied by Cohen's Fashion Optical, Rosa's Pizza, Namaste Bookshop, Sally Nails Spa, Jean Ferre Hair Salon, and Strut of NY shoes, with the 2nd floor occupied by Lucille Roberts Fitness for Women.
