This nineteenth-century mansion was owned by sugar magnate Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer. He commissioned a portrait of his wife by artist Gustaf Klimt that is, today, world renowned.

After the Jewish family fled the Nazis, the mansion was seized and made the official residence of the "Reichsprotektor", Reinhard Heydrich. He lived here until his assassination, and his widow continued living here until the Russian Army neared.

The mansion became a government institute after WWII.

Heydrich's son Heiner controversially announced plans to help restore the dilapidated building in 2011.
