"The Megalith" Thracian Cult Monument

The Megalith consist of ten or so rocks, two of them positioned on the others in such a way that they form something similar to a window. Apart from its function as a sacrificial altar, it was also used for regulating the calendar, connected with the sunset on the day of the summer solstice (21 June).
Rock formation "The Megalith" is a natural rock formation of the rock window type. It is believed to be a Thracian sanctuary. It is a part of the "Pateka Prez Vekovete" eco trail near the village of Buzovgrad. It is situated at an altitude of 572 m. The path from the beginning of the eco-trail is about 40 min. There are a number of signboards. There is a pavilion and benches for relaxation before the "Megalith". There is a great view from the rocks to the Koprinka Reservoir and the Balkans.

By Order № РД-470 of 28.05.2013 The megalith and its surroundings are recognized a natural monument, with an area of 0.53 ha for the purpose of declaring - protection of a natural rock formation of the type "rock window".
