Originally constructed in 1923 and known as Plant 2, the 640,432 sq. ft. building was the site for assembly of the Model A starting in 1927 and the Ford V8 commencing 1932. In 1937 with the construction of the Ensite building south of the Essex Terminal RR tracks, Plant 2 was converted to the production of parts. By 1950 the plant had been expanded to 784,000 sq. ft. and contained over 4,500 individually powered machines and assembled motors, axles and other parts.

In 1990 the plant was closed and completely gutted. After a complete rebuilding and expansion to 1,250,000 sq. ft. the plant was reopened in 1994 to produce a new high tech engine.
