Built in 1906 for the American Malting Corporation, the American Elevator was the first steel-reinforced concrete elevator built in the Buffalo area. Used until 1921 for beer production by American Malting, the elevator and it's owner fell victim to Prohibition.

Purchased in 1921 by the Russell-Miller company, the elevator was retooled for the storage and production of flour under the operation of the Peavy Grain Co, a subsidiary of ConAgra until its 2006 sale to Riverwright LLC. Refurbished in 2008 by Riverwright to be used as a corn storage facility for a planned Ethanol production plant, the elevator was eventually resold to Ceres Global Ag Corp and now forms part of the Ceres Global Buffalo Lakeport elevator complex.
