Town with a population of 48,901 at the 2000 census. First settled after the Revolutionary War and known as Pineland Village. Came to be known as Summerville as it was the summer retreat for Charleston plantation owners. Incorporated as a town in 1847.

Mostly in Dorchester County with Parts in Berkeley & Charleston County SC. Part of the Charleston SC Metro Area.
