This facility was built by BFGoodrich in the early 1950s to produce polyvinyl chloride. The raw plastic produced here turned up in consumer and industrial products around the world. This arm of Goodrich, known as Geon, was spun off in 1993, becoming the only North American public company dedicated solely to the development, production, and marketing of vinyl. Through a series of acquisitions and mergers the new company, "PolyOne" was formed in 2000.

  • Don't know if it's still true, but when I was a youngster in the 60s the buildings, grass and roads at the plant all had a coating of fine, white, snow-like powder. The "polymerizers," which were huge pressure-cookers used to make PVC, vented through the rooftops. Every once in awhile a "poly" would "blow" and--INSTANT PLASTIC SNOW!
