Unofficial name for popular summertime beach area along intercostal waterway behind Masonboro Island. This is the nearest "beach" to residents along nearby Whiskey Creek. Reachable only by boat. Name derived from that of a Labrador Retreiver "Gibby" owned by Karen Cross who lives nearby. The dog lived to the ripe-old-age of 18 years and many attribute his longevity to the frequency of his swims at this location.

  • Chatuge lake is a man made reservoir finished in 1942. The Gibby family owned the property the lake is on before it was taken to make a reservoir. The island was named after that family. A dog had nothing to do with it.
