  • Masonboro Island is also the site of several large parties over the course of the summer, the most notable being the July 4th party. In 2006 the sheriff's department and Wildlife Resources officers had to call in an armed Coast Guard detachment from the Wrightsville Beach station to help deal with the crowds and wild behavior, most notably the fighting.
