Rio Tinto Energy's Caballo Rojo Mine is a surface coal mine, situated in Wyoming's portion of the Powder River Basin. Coal from this mine is transported by BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad to customers throughout North America. Rio Tinto Energy also owns the neighboring Cordero Mine to the south, and together they are called the Cordero Rojo Mine. During 2007, production from the Cordero Rojo amounted to 40,467,627 tons, the 3rd highest among coal mines in the United States.
