The approximate boundary of the 100 acre tract bought by The Southern Pacific Railroad in April 1870 from farmer O.H. Methvin. The railroad laid out the town site - choosing the name "Longview" - in advance of track construction. In September 1870, the railroad purchased an additional 50 acres from Methvin to extend the town site further west.
