Leavenwort, Indiana

USA / Indiana / Leavenworth /

Leavenworth was a large and prosperous town in Crawford County in Indiana until the effects of the 1937 flood had wiped out much of the town and businesses. Leavenworth was known for it's thriving button factory that made pearl buttons for clothing out of shells in the Ohio River.

Leavenworth still exists today and still attracts visitors with it's restaurant business. The two main restaurants are The Dock and The Overlook. Both restaurants feature an excellent view of the Ohio River including the bend. For many decades the Stephenson General Store was another attraction in Leavenworth until it closed on September 1st in 2008.

  • Kristian, Greetings! Stephenson's General Store is open again. Stop by and take a look. It's becoming a great hangout for locals with their deli, ice cream, pizza, hardware, grocery, coin laundry, gifts, antiques, Amish-made goods, live bait, hunting/fishing licenses, old-fashioned candy, snacks, etc.
