Perry County was formed in 1814. It was named for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry who defeated the British squadron in the decisive Battle of Lake Erie in 1813.
The Civil War Confederate Raid on Derby took place in Derby, IN. as well as a raid on Troy, IN, located just west of Tell City.
Tell City, IN was named for famed marksmen William Tell who supposedly shot a arrow at a apple on someone's head and it went straight through the apple.
Perry County remains on Central Time dispite a last minute appeal to return to Eastern Time.
Tell City High School's mascot is the Marksmen.
