Coal is cleaned and washed before being loaded into unit coal trains for export. A typical unit coal train has 126 "bathtub" gondola railcars and transports 13,000 metric tonnes of coal. It can be loaded in 3 to 6 hours. A coating of latex is sprayed over the coal as the train passes the loading silo, this minimizes dust pollution during the 1100-km rail journey to coal terminals in Port Metro Vancouver.

The maintenance shops are also located here.
