Founded in 1916 and occupying this location since 1952, USCG Station Sault Sainte Marie is currently the Headquarters of Sector Sault Sainte Marie, an integral part of the US Coast Guard's 9th District.

The Station is home to the Soo Locks Vessel Traffic Service (VTS), Marine Inspection Office (MIO), and the offices for the Captain of the Port (COTP) for Sault Ste. Marie. The Station also serves as the homeport for several Small Boat units, an Aids to Navigation team and the Cutter USCGC Katmai Bay (WTGB 101).
