Joliet Army Arsenal Plant (JAAP). It was originally referenced as the Elwood Ordnance Plant (EOP) and Kankakee Ordnance Plant (KOP). This location was used to produce munitions for World War II as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars
The lands have been returned from US government control to local parks and government control. Much of the land is being converted an industrial park, with some areas becoming protected prairie land. Many old structures remain, such as the explosive storage bunkers, which because of their heavy reinforced designs are too expensive to demolish.
