Unofficially known as Spider Island, this land form was entirely built up from dredge spoil between approximately World War I and the mid-twentieth century. It was open water during the Civil War. The square structure on the north-central part of the island was made from stones that were dredged from the boat slip at old Fort Johnson just to the west; it may possibly be impounding some spoil that is more hazardous than that which forms the rest of the island.
