Pharmafil produced high quality gelatin capsules. It was established in 1965 as an independent company but was acquired by RP Scherer shortly thereafter. Scherer was acquired by Cardinal Health Co. in 1998.
In 2004 there was a management buy out which was followed in 2007 by a sale to Qualicaps a North Carolina competitor. At one time it employed 115 people and had sales of approximately $18 million a year. In 2008 the plant was closed and the remaining work transfered to North Carolina.
