East Pyongyang Thermal Power Station was completed on February 12 1989, one (1) of nineteen (19) public works projects sponsored by the Soviet Union. It was designed by the Russian-based Chrome Energy Project Laboratory, which built two (2) other power stations in the DPRK. It has a capacity of 500,000 kW and provides electricity to east Pyongyang and its suburban districts, as well providing apartment residents on Tongil and Munsu Street with hot water. The power station gives its hot water runoff to the Pyongyang Catfish Farm, which is across the street. The chief engineer is Jong Chol Nam.
