Phyongchon-guyok was established in October 1960. It is the location of several DPRK state owned enterprises, the Mansudae Art Studios and several residential units. This is one of the industrial areas of Phyongyang, where machine factories are located. Due to the inclement weather during August 2007, parts of the Phyongchon District nearest the Taedong River have experienced some of the worst flooding in Phyongyang.
