In 1907, the Tate Electric Company constructed a building which was soon bought by Chalmers, which supplied bodies to Ford.
In 1919 Fisher Body bought the plant and made truck and bus bodies in conjunction with the General Motors plant at Walker Road and Seminole Street. In 1932 the work was shifted to Oshawa, Ontario. During WW II the plant was reactivated to produce bren gun carriers and was subsequently sold by GM in 1949.
After passing through several owners the building was bought by Complete Packaging in 1977 and was destroyed in a fire in 1987.
