The classic building with a large 12-columned portico was designed by MF Kazakov as estate Princes Gagarin. It was surrounded by a wonderful garden, part of which remains today behind the house. In the early 1800s it was the home of the English Club, which later moved to Tverskaya Street. During the French Occupation, the palace served as the headquarters of senior officer in Napoleon's army.

The house burned down by fire in 1812, restoration under the leadership of O. Bove began only in 1826. The government purchased the building and in 1833 it opened as New Catherine's Hospital. At the hospital worked FI Inozemtsev, AV Martynov, and many other prominent doctors, in particular, A P Chekhov.

Currently, the building is City Hospital № 24.
