In 2006 a seven story modern building was constructed behind the 19th century house.

Number 9 has been famous since the mid 1850s when its then owner, nobleman A. Sukhovo-Kobylin was arrested and accused of murdering his French housekeeper and mistress. The suspect was imprisoned for a long time before being vindicated and later wrote about his ordeal. Then in 1872, the new owner, Yelena Naryshkina, arranged a public garden in the square at her own expense. Her generosity was rewarded by the City Council who renamed the boulevard after the gardens calling it. Naryshkinsky Boulevard. Only in 1937 was it renamed Strastnoy Boulevard.
