dump, EPA superfund
This Superfund site, called the Valley of the Drums, was one of the earliest and most serious hazardous waste sites because it involved a vast quantity of illegally disposed material. Discovery of this site helped motivate Congress to develop the Superfund law. It was cleaned up, capped, and fenced in the 1980s
Photographs of the Valley of the Drums helped persuade Congress to pass the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, or Superfund, in December 1980.
